JOB TITLE: HOMEBUILDERS® Therapist
SUPERVISED BY: HOMEBUILDERS® Program Supervisor and/or Program Manager
Core Qualifications- A Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related human services area.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children and families.
- A valid driver’s license and/or government-issued required. Must have reliable transportation.
- The Supervisor shall be 100% dedicated FTE to the HOMEBUILDERS® program.
- Conduct behaviorally specific, interactive, and holistic assessments of the family.
- Develop a Service Plan, in collaboration with the family, the local child welfare agency and others, within one (1) week of the start of service.
- Apply evidence-based practices in the model, including motivational interviewing, behavioral parent training, cognitive-behavior therapy, and relapse prevention strategies to facilitate behavior change.
- Teach family members a variety of skills, including child behavior management, effective discipline, positive behavioral support, communication skills, problem-solving skills, safety planning, and help families establish daily routines through direct teaching, role playing/practicing, coaching and prompting, audio/visual aids, written materials, and homework.
- Provide core services structured through the HOMEBUILDERS® model, delivering intensive in-home crisis intervention, counseling, and life-skills education for families with children at imminent risk of placement to prevent unnecessary out-of-home placement.
- Therapists are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Carry two (2) cases at a time with a third case opened when a current case is nearing closure.
- Assist families in meeting basic needs by connecting to concrete goods and services, while teaching them to sustain these gains independently.
- Provide counseling, child development knowledge, parenting skills, anger management, and communication skills.
- Collaborate with formal and informal community resources to link families with timely resources and identify barriers to access.
- Prior to the conclusion of services, develop a written plan to maintain progress and identify ongoing needs in partnership with the family.
- Be trained, and required to use, the HOMEBUILDERS® data management system known as the Exponent Case Management (ECM) system.
- Must be available to attend twelve days of training in the first year of employment and any additional trainings necessary to perform duties.
- Knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of available community resources and coordination efforts for clients with mental health and substance use problems.
- Prior experience with HOMEBUILDERS® Model or proven adherence to evidence-based practices.
- Ability to represent the agency professionally and build rapport with the community.
- Ability to determine appropriate community services and agencies to meet client needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- Ability to network and coordinate efforts between outreach, treatment, and support systems.
- Ability to perform physical tasks as required, including mobility and safety considerations for field work; able to transport clients when needed.
- Must be able to perform sedentary work with occasional lifting or moving of objects; vision adequacy for reading and verifying work.
