Summary
Produces mammographic images under the clinical direction of a Radiologist. Takes responsibility for film quality, patient care, safety, sterile technique, and providing education for staff and students. Participates in departmental operations and must meet current MQSA (FDA) regulations for a practicing mammographer.
Responsibilities
- Produces routine and diagnostic mammograms, obtaining patient history, evaluating for contraindications, reviewing Radiologist’s reports, applying shielding and immobilization devices, adjusting equipment, reviewing films, and preparing the room.
- Follows radiation safety and patient protection guidelines.
- Provides emotional support and assistance to patients.
- Provides care appropriate to the patient's age.
- Coordinates with physicians and staff.
- Instructs staff, new employees, and students in mammography procedures.
- Operates and maintains mammographic and departmental equipment.
- Participates in quality control, assurance, and improvement activities.
Other Information
Education Requirements:
- Associate degree in Radiologic Technology or related field from an accredited program.
- Mammography registration required within 12 months of hire.
License/Certification Requirements:
- Current registration with ARRT with up-to-date CE credits.
- Advanced certification in Mammography through ARRT.
Professional Experience:
- 2 years of Radiographer or Mammographer experience preferred but not required.
