The Registered Radiation Therapist administers radiation treatments to patients under the direction of the radiation oncologist. The incumbent has the authority to provide patient care within the parameters of this assignment of responsibility, according to prescribed, delegated medical regimen and the hospital policies.
Responsibilities- Administer radiation treatments to patients under the direction of a radiation oncologist, including obtaining history and required data, evaluating for contraindicating conditions, applying blocks, wedges, bolus, filters, supportive and immobilization devices, tattoos, and administering radiation per physician’s prescription.
- Apply radiation safety guidelines and patient protection guidelines.
- Provide emotional support, comfort, general assistance and information to patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care based on the age of the patients served.
- Coordinate or collaborate with physicians, team members and nursing staff.
- Operate and maintain radiation therapy equipment, computers and other departmental equipment.
- Document to the patient record.
- Provide instruction in the basic theory, technical skills, and application of radiation therapy procedures to other employees, new employees and students.
- Apply safety and infection control procedures.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Display professional behavior.
- Takes an active role in self‑development.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as needed to support operations and the provision of care.
- Associate degree, Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- Certificate of Radiation Therapy.
- ARRT registered or registry‑eligible (must pass registry within 6 months of hire).
- BCLS Certification.
