Introduction
The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation invites qualified applicants for the Transportation Maintainer 2 position in the Materials Management Unit, Central Warehouse, Rocky Hill.
Your Role- Perform a full range of materials management duties, both manual and clerical, including receiving daily deliveries, stocking commodities, issuing materials to operations, and maintaining accurate inventory levels.
- Use CoreCT – Inventory Management Module to control parts and supplies.
- Verify vendor deliveries against purchase orders, unpack shipments, check condition, count quantity, verify part numbers, and tag items for put‑away.
- Perform cycle counts to ensure inventory control.
- Operate forklift, reach truck, and other warehouse equipment.
- Travel to other stockrooms and vendor locations to obtain or deliver parts and supplies.
- Provide backup coverage in satellite stockroom operations as needed.
- Perform warehouse housekeeping duties: clean and maintain shelves, bins, floors, and storage areas.
- Execute landscaping and grounds‑keeping duties: mowing, weeding, plowing, shoveling, raking, and operating hand and power tools.
- Answer telephones, take messages, use copier, and perform data entry.
- Participate in mandatory winter overtime (November 1 through April 30) and be available for emergency duties such as snow and ice removal.
- Current valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with tank endorsement.
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Card (MEC) at time of interview.
- Copy of Master Application and completed Connecticut Department of Transportation Commercial Driver Supplement (CTDOT-CDL-1).
- One (1) year of experience in construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, road maintenance, or related work involving mechanical equipment.
- Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma in a maintenance trade, or completion of an approved Transportation Maintenance Registered Apprenticeship Program, can substitute for the general experience requirement.
- Experience with CoreCT or another computerized purchasing and inventory management system.
- Knowledge of warehouse and inventory control best practices.
- Equipment experience: forklift, reach truck, Bobcat, floor scrubber, payloader.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office:
Outlook, Excel, Word. - Good oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with internal customers.
- Willingness to accept assignment to emergency duties, including snow and ice removal, whenever required.
Physical Requirements
- Background investigation and verification of references.
- Adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity; must maintain physical fitness to perform duties.
- Physical examination required.
Exposure to extreme weather, heavy lifting, traffic and hazardous conditions, heights, poison ivy, insect bites, and loud machinery. Protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles may be required.
