Position Overview

Title: Custodian

Location: 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT

Schedule: Full‑time (37.5 hrs), 2nd Shift, Wednesday‑Sunday 2:30 pm‑10:30 pm

• Perform custodial tasks and maintenance of dormitories, classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms, and lavatories; outdoor areas.
• Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers.
• Wash, dust, and polish glass, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal equipment.
• Make beds and manage linens, blankets, and clothing within the work area.
• Collect, count, and dispose of soiled laundry and trash.
• Empty, sterilize, and empty glassware, wash basins, and bedpans.
• Inspect buildings for damage and report conditions to the supervisor.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks: change light bulbs, replace fuses, lubricate door hinges, tighten drawer/cabinet hinges; replace ceiling or floor tiles.
• Remove snow or ice from stairways and walkways around buildings and apply sand/salt as needed.
• Move furniture and set up classrooms as required.
• Run errands and perform related duties as directed.

• Any experience and training that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

• Experience working in a 24/7 healthcare environment.
• Experience with floor buffers, carpet cleaners, mops.
• Experience stripping and waxing floors.
• Experience with commercial cleaning products and proper maintenance protocols in a healthcare environment.
• Experience using basic handheld tools for minor maintenance repairs.
