Position Overview

The Hanover has been committed to delivering on our promises for more than 170 years. Our staff counsel office is seeking an experienced Attorney to join our growing team in our Rocky Hill, Connecticut office. This position can be done partially remote. This full‑time/exempt position requires the handling of moderate to high exposure liability cases in civil litigation from the inception of the lawsuit until conclusion through dismissal, settlement or trial within Connecticut.

The successful candidate will work with adjusters and clients to resolve claims expeditiously and efficiently.

In this role, you will
  • Meet with clients and claims professionals to resolve cases in the most cost‑effective manner
  • Conduct pre‑trials, mediations, arbitrations or any other legal activity required
  • May independently conduct trials
  • Advise claim professionals on the evaluation of legal files
  • Provide legal advice to clients and other claim professionals as needed
  • Negotiate settlements as directed
  • Attend round tables
What you need to apply
  • Experience in automobile and general liability matters, with jury trial experience preferred but not required
  • Admitted to the Connecticut and Massachusetts bar
  • Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable MVR and an ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Admission to the federal bar is preferred but not required
  • Able to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters, claims professionals and support staff
  • Computer literacy, including MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e‑mail and calendar

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience.
