Overview
Chaplain (25 Hour) – Part-Time, Interfaith Chaplain for the Connecticut State Department of Veterans Affairs.
Location:
Rocky Hill, CT.
Schedule:
25 hours per week, First Shift. The role supports Veterans Residency facilities and healthcare services with interfaith pastoral care and related duties.
- Provide interfaith pastoral care to Veteran Residents and Patients.
- Solicit volunteers or contract chaplains and other religious/spiritual leaders to perform services or visits (e.g., Jumah, Mass, Last Rights).
- Conduct an interfaith service inclusive of all religious denominations.
- Attend care conferences for Veterans Residents and Patients; document in the electronic medical record.
- Provide on-site pastoral counseling and coordinate burial services as needed.
- Preach and conduct religious services in a state facility; administer rites and sacraments; prepare and preach sermons.
- Consult with visiting clergy and facility staff on religious issues; interpret Chaplain functions to other departments.
- Under appropriate clinical supervision, counsel individuals and their families; participate in team meetings; keep records and write reports.
- Assist in organizing and conducting seminars for community clergy; participate in in-house educational programs.
- May speak to lay and professional groups; may train and conduct choir; may serve on committees; may participate in Employee Assistance Program; may counsel staff and their families.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Knowledge of pastoral ministry and ability to perform the requirements of formal religious services.
- Interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills.
General
Experience:
Incumbents must possess one of the following:
- Graduation from an accredited three-year postgraduate theological seminary;
- Master of Divinity degree or equivalent;
- Completion of all formal religious training required by a recognized religious denomination to perform the pastoral role.
AND
- One (1) year of pastoral experience or equivalent experience within a recognized religious denomination.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite
- Experience with Electronic Health Records
- Experience providing counseling to individuals and groups; leading grief counseling or spiritual care groups
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to address spiritual and emotional needs of patients
- Ordained or commissioned by a religious body with ongoing endorsement from an acceptable denominational authority.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license may be required.
- Ability to travel may be required.
May involve lifting or restraining individuals; exposure to communicable diseases or risk of injury from individuals; may encounter disagreeable conditions.
