- Design, support, and repair traffic signal electronic equipment for the DOT's over 2,500 signalized intersections.
- Develop and implement traffic signal system timing plans.
- Prioritize, schedule, assign, oversee and review work of lower‑level staff.
- Direct operations staff to respond to system and equipment failures and to problem solve.
- Review shop drawings and signal design layout plans prepared by the DOT and private sector engineers.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Applicants must be available to travel for training, conferences, meetings, field visits, etc., both within and outside of normal working hours, when necessary, and must possess and retain a valid driver’s license. Minimum Qualifications- Seven (7) years of experience performing electrical engineering design.
- Experience with the DOT’s traffic signal software and associated hardware such as Cubic products and Mio Vision.
- Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing complex traffic signal systems.
- Experience with traffic signal communications equipment, such as cellular modems, radio interconnects, fiber optics and ethernet over copper.
- Experience directing field staff to respond to system and equipment failures.
- Experience reviewing traffic control signal plans, details and specifications.
- Experience writing technical procedures, policies, or specifications.
- Experience with relevant Federal, State, Agency and Bureau manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Experience working effectively with CTDOT staff and external stakeholders.
- Experience prioritizing and distributing work.
- Experience using Bluebeam and Office 365 tools including SharePoint.
- Experience communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing, on topics related to traffic signal operations.
- Experience working independently, being self‑motivated and taking ownership of assignments.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some risk of injury or physical harm from construction environments and a moderate degree of discomfort from exposure to year‑round weather conditions.
