Job Summary

Tucker Mechanical, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., is a full-service mechanical contractor with over 65 years of experience in 24/7/365 HVAC service, power/industrial piping, commercial/process plumbing, and commercial HVAC systems, as well as computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) technology. The Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed and competitive cost estimates for mechanical systems in commercial and industrial construction projects, supporting bid quotations and packages, and working closely with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure accurate pricing and scope alignment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Willingness to learn how to perform tasks within established operating methodology
  • Collect and work with historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products
  • Consult with clients, vendors, internal personnel, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Prepare estimates for management planning, organizing, and scheduling work
  • Analyze blueprints and documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
  • Review contract and bid documents and understand scope for project turnover
  • Attend walk-throughs, pre-bid, and scope clarification meetings
  • Perform quantitative take-off and computer entry
  • Prepare scope letters and proposals
  • Maintain relationships with customers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Execute design/build, conceptual, and budget estimates
  • Coordinate take-offs, issue bills of material, and obtain subcontractor quotes
  • Assist project managers with take-offs and pricing changes in work
  • Escalate critical or sensitive issues to the Manager of Preconstruction with recommendations for resolution
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs
  • Perform additional assignments as required by company needs or executive direction
Preferred

Education and/or Experience
  • 3+ years of related experience in the construction industry
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation
  • Field experience/knowledge is a definite benefit
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Familiarity with Autobid Mechanical, Bluebeam, or other mechanical, technical, or construction programs is a plus

Physical Demands

Requires regular sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing. Requires use of hands for handling tools and circuits, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May need to commute to field locations for take‑offs and navigate job sites.

Work Environment

Employees spend long periods at a computer and travel to field locations as needed. Field work may involve outdoor exposure to wet, humid conditions, moving mechanical and electrical parts, high or precarious places, dust, fumes, chemicals, weather extremes, and moderate to loud noise levels.
