Lead Developer; Java heavy

Position: Lead Developer (Java heavy)
Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Lead Developer (Java-Heavy) for a Contract assignment with one of our premier Regulatory clients in Rockville, MD.

This role is hybrid (3 days/week Onsite)

Lead-level responsibilities:

• Knowledge transfer
• Establishing best practices
• Helping shape future architecture
• Cross-functional leadership (Dev, Testing, UI, Dev Ops)

Primary Technical Focus:

• Java (Backend heavy)
  - predominantly Java-focused
• AWS serverless architecture:
  • Lambda, SNS, SQS
  • API Gateway, Step Functions
  • No EC2 (not server-based)
• Databases:
  • Postgre
    
    SQL & Oracle mandatory
  • Strong SQL skills required
  • Mongo
    
    DB/Document
    
    DB exposure is a plus
• Integration/API knowledge:
  • Must understand how integrations work and be able to walk through project independently

UI / Frontend:

• UI experience is preferred but not required
• Angular is preferred
  , but open to other frameworks

AI / Future State:

• Will help implement AI tools in the future (Amazon Q, Agentic AI, Bedrock)
• AI experience is a big plus
  , but not required

Qualifications :

• Comfortable working in both testing and development roles
• Ownership of automation architecture (both functional and performance) and set up test frameworks/infrastructure.
• Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Perform Independent assurance/development on all SDLC phases in a project.
• Actively participate in collaborative resolution of defects including root cause analysis of production incidents.
• Continually look for ways to innovate and improve testing process to gain efficiencies.
• Demonstrates business domain expertise in the project involved.
• Create and execute complex test strategies across multiple systems as required to execute tests.
• Design and develop automation code, scripts, utilities, simulators, data generators, API/Interface testing solutions and other programmatic test tools to test complex systems.
• Effectively communicate testing activities, findings, and project risk in oral and written formats.
• Champion the collaborative resolution of defects including root cause analysis of production incidents.
• Able to work on implementing REACT/Angular UI as well as Java back-end
• Demonstrates technical expertise in Object Oriented and database technologies/concepts which resulted in deployment of enterprise quality solutions.
• Previous experience in implementing solutions using Java script, Typescript
• Strong competency Java 17 and further (the latest features) including writing testable code using Unit Tests, Integration tests.
• Good understanding and implementation knowledge of Oracle, Postgres database including data persistence in JAVA using JPA/Hibernate
• Expertise in writing SQL queries
• Strong working knowledge in the implementation of CI, CD pipelines using (Maven/Jenkins/Github) including Code quality.
• Hands on deep working knowledge with AWS including ECS/EC2, Security groups, IAM roles, Dynamo
  
  DB.
• Architect and develop event-based architecture use cases using SQS/SNS including efficient usage of serverless functions(AWS Lambda), API Gateway, Step Functions
• Knowledge of industry leading software engineering approaches including Test Automation, Build Automation and Configuration Management frameworks.
