Overview
We are assisting a client in Rockville, MD with hiring a Lead Fire Alarm Technician.
Position overview:
Lead Fire Alarm Technician with experience in troubleshooting and programming fire alarm panels, working with brands such as Safeway Giant (contracted), Edwards, and Honeywell. The role includes field service, inspections, and on-call rotation within a large technician team.
- Test and inspect fire alarm systems in commercial buildings.
- Respond to service requests, diagnose system malfunctions, and adjust, repair, or replace equipment as needed to bring systems into compliance.
- Perform fire alarm system testing and inspection per NFPA and local code standards.
- Prepare accurate and timely inspection and service reports.
Seeking a Lead Fire Alarm Technician with special hazards experience; FM200 is preferred. A minimum of 5 years’ experience and NICET certification would be a plus. Must be able to service, inspect, and repair fire alarm systems for established commercial customers on a scheduled basis and be available for on-call rotation.
Compensation- Hourly pay; rate dependent on candidate's experience.
- Potential quarterly bonuses.
- Hours worked between 6 pm and 5 am paid at time-and-a-half; holiday pay at double time for emergency calls plus 8 hours holiday pay at regular rate.
- On-call rotation: typical cycle described in the original posting (e.g., every 10–12 weeks) with rotation among technicians.
- Testing and inspecting fire alarm systems in commercial buildings.
- Diagnosing and repairing system malfunctions; ensuring compliance with NFPA and local standards.
- Maintaining accurate inspection and service records.
- Valid Driver’s License with 3 or fewer points.
- Minimum of 3 years of licensed driving experience.
- Advanced knowledge of diagnostics and system repair preferred but not required.
- NICET certification preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience.
- Experience with special hazard suppression systems (FM200 and Halon) a plus but not required.
- Functional ability to test and service brands such as Simplex, Notifier, and Fire-Lite.
- On-call availability when scheduled.
- Comfortable working on ladders 6 to 12 ft and on lifts.
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs; work overhead and in tight spaces (attics, crawl spaces).
- Strong customer communication and detailed service write-ups.
- Well-organized with ability to track service tickets and complete required documentation for each service performed.
