The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategies to secure major gift support for the Agency. This position will be proactive in developing a portfolio of personal relationships with current and future major gift donors. Incumbent is responsible for defining and expanding the program through their relationships with individual donors and foundations. Must work collaboratively with the CEO, CEAO, Development staff and other departments.
The Director maintains a portfolio of active prospects for support, and is responsible for the successful solicitation of these prospects.
- Maintains a portfolio of current major gift donors and major donor prospects for cultivation and solicitation
- Solicitation & Strategy:
Develop and execute strategic cultivation and solicitation plans, including making direct asks for major gifts. - Prospect Development:
Research, identify, and qualify new major gift prospects (individuals, corporations, foundations). - Relationship Management:
Cultivate long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with existing and prospective donors, acting as a primary contact. - Stewardship:
Ensure donors feel appreciated and connected, leading to retention and increased giving. - Collaboration:
Work with executive leadership, board members, program staff, and communications teams to align fundraising efforts. - Reporting & Administration:
Maintain accurate donor records, track progress in a donor database, and provide reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
- A minimum of six years of progressive experience in development, major gifts and fundraising in a nonprofit work environment
- Strong goal orientation and leadership skills.
- Works well independently and self-motivated in initiating contacts with potential and existing donors
- Proficiency in donor databases and supporting technology
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Maintain professionalism and respect the confidentiality of donor’s personal information
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends
