Overview
Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities maintenance and plant equipment operations work in schools. Work involves varied building cleaning duties and related facilities and grounds maintenance. Employees receive on the job training in the use of cleaning and grounds tools and equipment, and supplies to clean interior of buildings and maintain grounds. The work is repetitive, requires sustained physical effort and involves some heavy lifting with exposure to hazards.
Some positions require certification for checking or operating heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. Employees in these roles may be required to work on weekends to facilitate facility use by user groups and must maintain building security during weekend shifts. They are considered emergency personnel and may need to report to buildings during inclement weather.
Physical Demands:
Sufficient strength to lift and move heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs) and perform manual labor. Special requirements include location changes, own transportation to different school locations, ability to work Saturday/Sunday and varying shifts, and wearing provided uniforms.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of the methods, materials and practices of building and grounds work; ability to operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment; ability to secure a current valid boiler operation certificate and license and to satisfactorily complete in-service training required for this classification; uses personal protective equipment and other safety tools and practices; monitors building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment;
possesses a basic knowledge of emergency response procedures. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training & Experience Completion of the ninth grade required. High School or GED diploma preferred. Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Certificate/Licenses:
Must be able to obtain a boiler certificate indicating proficiency in the safe operation of low pressure boilers.
