Local Government Client is seeking a Telecom Technician to supplement existing telecommunications staff. This role will support both the legacy Avaya telephony environment and the organization’s enterprise Microsoft Teams UCaaS rollout, which is currently being deployed to ~80% of end users.
This technician will perform day‑to‑day telecom operations, onsite support, low‑voltage cabling, Teams device/desktop support, and number assignments as the organization transitions from Avaya to Microsoft Teams Phone.
Primary Responsibilities Avaya Support- Perform repairs, moves, adds, changes (MAC), site surveys, and troubleshooting for Avaya telephony platforms.
- Support and maintain Avaya CM6 and associated Media Gateways (G650, G600, G350, G700).
- Troubleshoot PBX hardware, signaling protocols (PRI, T1, SIP), and adjunct systems (ASA, AES, SBC, CMS).
- Coordinate services with telecom vendors:
Avaya, EIA (Electrical), Verizon (Centrex/T1/SIP).
The organization is currently rolling out Microsoft Teams for UCaaS and expects to complete the migration by year end. This role will support:
- End‑user desktop support for Microsoft Teams App.
- On‑site support for Teams‑certified hard phones and paging systems.
- Number assignments during the Teams migration process.
- Support escalations related to Teams voice functionality as required.
- Low‑voltage cabling installation, termination, and testing.
- Service ticket triage, updates, and resolution.
- Maintain accurate telecom documentation.
- Occasional after‑hours emergency response.
- Minimum 3 years of telecom/PBX experience performing MAC work in enterprise environments.
- Hands‑on experience supporting Avaya CM6, Media Gateways, and adjuncts (AES, ASA, SBC, CMS).
- Strong troubleshooting skills for PBX hardware, SIP, PRI, T1, and VOIP systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Teams (app, desktop support, device support, number assignments).
- Understanding of the transition between legacy PBX and cloud UCaaS environments.
- Familiarity with EIA/TIA or BICSI installation standards.
- Experience with SharePoint, MS Office, and Microsoft Exchange.
- Knowledge of Executone Key Systems.
- Completion of a two‑year accredited undergraduate, trade school, or certificate program in telecom installation and maintenance.
- Contractor would be responsible for occasional on‑call emergency response services outside normal business hours (5:00 pm – 8:30 am Monday‑Friday). This time is estimated to be: (4) Hours on Weekends and Holidays.
- Providing call‑back within 30 minutes of initial call.
- The organization will provide detailed instructions regarding what type of calls require action outside of normal business hours.
- Must have a personal vehicle to respond to County sites.
- Must possess standard telecom test equipment:
- Butt set
- Punch‑down tools
- Wire mapping tester
