Summary
The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications to residents in a safe and organized manner. Responsibilities include assistance with medication assistance, documentation, resident care, and communication with residents, families, and team members. The technician also carries out duties of a Resident Assistant.
Responsibilities- Ensure that Victory Housing, Inc.’s Mission Statement takes precedence over all decisions and actions.
- Adhere to all Victory Housing policies and procedures, COMAR 10.07.14 regulations, and County, State and Federal guidelines, including DOH, CDC, CMS, and OSHA.
- Implement universal precautions and infectious disease control protocols, including proper use of PPE.
- Complete all assigned training: initial orientation, COMAR 10.07.14 requirements, monthly in‑services, HIPAA, VHI required personal care and skills modules, and participate in required safety and disaster drills.
- Coordinate with Registered Nurse/LPN on all matters relating to the Clinical Program and Medication Delivery System.
- Read and document pertinent and objective information in the Communication Log for resident updates, status changes and/or observations.
- Administer medications and treatments using the EMAR platform, ensuring correct drug, correct resident, correct route, correct dosage, correct time, RIGHT charting, and that medications are not expired.
- Bring medications to residents discreetly; do not pass medications in dining room, living room, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident medication among other residents, visitors, volunteers, etc.
- Check photo of resident or ask name prior to administering medication.
- Offer water, juice and/or apple sauce (if prescribed) with medications and observe each resident swallowing medication.
- Document completion of resident medication administration in EMR; if system is down, document the med‑pass on paper MAR immediately after each pass.
- Document legibly resident concerns made during med‑pass.
- If a resident refuses medication, document the file and immediately report to the Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator.
- Answer resident questions or concerns regarding medications.
- Upon completion of medication pass, return all non‑dispensed medication to the cart and lock the cart.
- Wash hands before and after medication pass or whenever medication comes in contact with hands; hand sanitizer may be used in lieu of washing hands if hands are not soiled.
- Prepare resident’s medications to accompany them on short‑term absences from the Community; document medication record legibly.
- Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart and Wellness Center.
- Restock medication cart with cups and spoons after medication pass is completed.
- Adhere to narcotics count policy; count, verify, sign and date the narcotics count at the beginning and completion of each shift.
- If the Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator is not at the Community, assist with medication delivery by pharmacy and report any discrepancies.
- Assist with resident care and physical support (e.g., after a fall, bed, bath, shower, toileting, emergency evacuation).
- Initiate and complete incident reports per policy and procedure.
- Promote dignity for all residents and support the team in creatively meeting resident needs.
- Promote teamwork and information sharing with Management, Clinical and Care Teams.
- Communicate with the Health, Wellness Delegating RN/LPN/Coordinator regarding all resident health care and wellness issues.
- Serve meals in the dining room with hospitality and customer service; if required, deliver meals on a well‑appointed tray to resident in their suite.
- Responsibilities in the dining room include: no wheelchairs, walk residents to table, set tables according to posted diagram, prepare beverage stand, place tray stands strategically, guarantee all residents in dining room prior to serving, assist in serving meals, greet residents, request choice and portion size, serve meals at safe temperature, offer seconds if requested, offer beverage refills, clear dishes, offer diabetic desserts, ensure a safe environment by following safety procedures for lifting, smoking, fire and disaster, report unsafe conditions, complete accident reports, store chemicals, follow proper infection control techniques, assist housekeeping personnel, report equipment malfunction, maintain good public relations, support the team, attend monthly staff meetings, answer help and call bells within 3 minutes, answer incoming telephone calls, perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Must be current on all vaccinations including COVID‑19 and receive CDC recommended booster doses.
