Overview
Job Title: Director of Accounting & Finance
Job Description: Lead all accounting and financial operations including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, and compliance. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management for multiple projects. Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Manage and optimize the use of the company’s ERP system, preferably Sage. Establish and maintain internal controls, policies, and best practices. Supervise and mentor the accounting team of three people, focusing on performance management and development.
Partner closely with the CEO and executive leadership on financial strategy and decision-making. Support project accounting, cost tracking, WIP reporting, and job cost analysis. Coordinate with external partners including auditors, tax advisors, and banks. Ensure compliance with applicable GAAP, tax, and regulatory requirements. Drive process improvements to support scalability and operational efficiency in a growing organization.

- Manage and optimize the company’s ERP system, Sage preferred.

- Collaborate with the CEO and executive leadership on financial strategy.
- Support project accounting and job cost analysis.
- Coordinate with external partners such as auditors and tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive process improvements for organizational growth.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Experience in construction, engineering, architecture, or professional services.
- Strong knowledge of project accounting and job costing.
- Experience with Sage ERP or similar systems.
- Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams.
- Strong communication skills for effective partnership with executive leadership.
- High attention to detail with a strategic mindset.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in construction or construction-related industries.
- Hands-on experience with financial reporting and forecasting.
- Strong skills in budgeting, month-end processes, and general ledger management.
100% on-site, 5 days per week in a fast-paced, collaborative, and growing organization. The team consists of 115 members, providing a dynamic and engaging work environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Rockville, MD.
