Overview
The expatriate tax accountant will manage inquiries and metrics from the global mobility team, employees on international assignments (expatriates) and business units. The accountant will also be responsible for the administration associated with an expatriate tax operation, including developing and maintaining metrics, lists and databases for tax services and frequent business travelers. The tax accountant provides guidance, coaching, and education to expatriates, stakeholders, and business unit managers about the Corporate’s expatriate tax program, explaining tax equalization policies and procedures, resolving cases, and working with the Corporate’s tax assistance firm to complete tax equalization settlements.
Responsibilities- Manage inquiries and metrics from the global mobility team, expatriates, and business units.
- Administer expatriate tax operations, including developing and maintaining metrics, lists, and databases for tax services and frequent business travelers.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and education about the corporate expatriate tax program to expatriates, stakeholders, and business unit managers.
- Explain tax equalization policies and procedures, resolve cases, and work with the tax assistance firm to complete tax equalization settlements.
- Research discrepancies in compensation; determine resolutions, with strong problem‑solving, attention to detail, and effective written and oral communication skills.
- Accurately calculate, record, manage payments/amounts owed, reconcile, and post to individual employee files.
- Use intermediate to advanced Excel (including VLOOKUP) and PowerPoint to provide and maintain monthly metrics; provide updates to financial reports and process vendor invoices and statuses via email.
- Provide excellent customer service and interpersonal interaction with the expatriate population to educate and explain U.S. and foreign taxes.
- possess comprehensive knowledge of accounting and taxation principles; adapt in a fast-paced environment and multi-task with large data sets; complete repetitive tasks to closure.
- Contribute to a team approach to deliver high-quality service for expatriate tax compliance, planning, and general business operations.
- Mandatory U.S. citizen.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Global Management or equivalent experience.
- High proficiency and advanced skills in Excel and pivot tables to analyze large amounts of data.
- Experience with individual income tax returns; experience in compiling, analyzing compensation data, payroll, and accounts receivable.
- Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment and multi-task numerous projects.
- Excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills; strong attention to detail, logical, methodical, and proactive problem-solving approach.
- Ability to follow through on assignments to closure; extensive experience in MS Excel, data analytics, metrics, pivot and V-lookup tables; audit experience is a plus.
- Ability to work well independently while functioning within a team; proven ability to recognize potential issues and engage in problem-solving activities such as escalating issues to stakeholders to reach resolution.
- Ability to create metrics on work activities.
