Job Description

Join an innovative team in a challenging and rewarding position as a Mechanical Engineer, focusing on designing electronic packaging solutions for hand-held, tablet, and human-machine interface applications. You will engage with emerging technologies in embedded electronics, contributing to diverse industries including aerospace, defense, medical devices, and consumer electronics.

Responsibilities

+ Design mechanical subsystems and components from concept through mass production, considering environmental factors, human factors, manufacturability, and cost.

+ Document designs with drawings and manage bill of materials, maintaining traceability in PDM and ERP systems.

+ Test and validate mechanical designs against requirements, including first article inspections (FAI).

+ Design mechanical fixtures for production test infrastructure, including high volume mass production.

+ Monitor manufacturing and assembly quality and engage in continuous improvement activities.

+ Manage manufacturer and vendor relationships and initial material requirements planning for prototypes.

+ Interface with global teams to manage design tradeoffs and report schedule and cost details to project management.

Essential Skills

+ 3+ years of experience in designing products, preferably using Solid Works.

+ Strong knowledge of printed circuit board layout mechanicals and mechanical design for rugged applications.

+ Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related technical field.

+ Proficiency in design for manufacturing (DFM) and working with 3D CAD, preferably Solid Works.

+ Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molded plastics, sheet or machined metal designs, and 3D rapid manufacturing processes.

+ Ability to work on ITAR projects.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Familiarity with Six Sigma/Lean principles.

+ Expertise in human factors/user experience design and industrial design.

+ Experience in designing for rugged applications (e.g., MIL-STD-810, IPxx, ATEX).

+ Knowledge of electromechanical assemblies like LCDs, batteries, antennas, PCBs, buttons.

+

Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools, particularly Solid Works and SAP.

+ Experience working under ISO
9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems, ITAR export controls.

Work Environment

This is a fully in-person role based in Rockville, MD, where you will work in a small, dynamic multi-disciplinary team of 30 members. The position offers a collaborative environment with exposure to cutting-edge technologies in embedded electronics.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $110000.00/hr.
