Principal – Charles W. Woodward High School (FY27)

Overview

Under direction, responsible for administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for students and staff in line with community educational goals. Duties include establishing a learning climate, defining roles, planning and coordinating programs, influencing change, and making decisions. While many duties may be delegated to assistants for implementation, the principal oversees the entire program.

Woodward High School will open for the 2027–28 school year. The principal will begin on July 1, 2026, one year prior to the school opening for students.

Only applicants in the MCPS Pre‑qualified Principals Pool (PQP) or currently a MCPS principal are eligible to apply.

Wage range: $146,939 – $204,585.

• Thorough knowledge of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) policies and procedures, the Call to Action Plan, the Program of Studies, and state and federal regulations and laws.
• Thorough knowledge of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services.
• Demonstrated competence in staff selection, training, supervision, and evaluation.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and ability to act effectively under stress.
• Ability to motivate reads encourage, and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance and good morale.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, or secondary school curriculum. Doctorate desirable.
• Minimum of five years in teaching, administration, or supervision, of which at least three years must have been teaching in a secondary school classroom.
• Completion of an administrative internship program and/or experience as an assistant principal desirable.
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge and abilities may be considered.
• Meet Maryland certification requirements for Administrator II.
