As an Assistant Director, you will play a key role in the program’s daily operations and administrative functions. This position includes hands‑on work with children, such as supervising participants, leading and supporting activities, and ensuring a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment. You will be responsible for adhering to Maryland State Department of Education Office of Child Care Licensing requirements, as well as implementing program policies and procedures to maintain a high‑quality, well‑rounded program.

Administrative responsibilities include activity planning, supply procurement, parent engagement, and communication with schools.

This is a 20‑hour‑per‑week position, with a regular schedule of 3:30–6:30 p.m. on days when MCPS is in session, plus an average of five hours per week for office and administrative work. Flexibility to work 1:00–6:30 p.m. on MCPS early‑release days and to occasionally stay late for school‑related events is preferred. Flu([ ay in English and Spanish] is also preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that our center staff consistently applies all Office of Child Care regulations, ensuring the highest standards of care for our children.
  • Take responsibility for the physical safety and emotional well‑being of the children, serving as a positive role model for both staff and children.
  • Foster clear and courteous communication with school personnel, site staff, parents, and children, building strong relationships within our community.
  • Embrace an active role with the children, engaging in daily activities and creating a fun and educational atmosphere.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all areas used by children, ensuring a safe environment and securing the building and playground equipment/supplies at the end of each day.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, ensuring proper staff and child ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Supervise children responsibly, following disciplinary procedures and enforcing rules in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Collaborate with the Director to plan, coordinate, and implement a diverse range of recreational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, social activities, and special events.
  • Assist with the setup, takedown, and daily cleaning of equipment and the program area, maintaining a.goods organized site.
  • Support school events such as PTA meetings, back‑to‑school fairs, international nights, etc.
  • Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years old and Teacher of School‑Age qualified with MSDE Office of Child Bed Care.
  • Must have a strong understanding ante and ability to apply Office of Child Care regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in ensuring the safety and well‑being of children.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Passion for working with children and creating a positive and engaging environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and handle administrative responsibilities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Must hold a high school diploma or certificate of high‑school equivalence or have successfully completed courses for credit from an accredited college. Have successfully completed 9 semester hours of approved training in education or 135 clock hours of approved school‑age childcare training in Growth and Development, Curriculum, and Administration or related fields.
