Occupational Medicine Physician – Reviewing Medical Officer (RMO) – Medical Employability Program (MEP)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Clinical
  • Participate in preparation for The Joint Commission accreditation.
  • Maintain medical records securely according to TJC standards.
  • Maintain appointment to medical staff and privileges for all services assigned according to FOH Credentialing and Privileging policy.
  • Maintain board certification and licenses to practice medicine in accordance with professional societies and state regulations.
  • Participate in FOH peer review process as requested.
  • Assist in establishing and perform continuous quality improvement assessments of the various examination types reviewed in MEP.
Service Operations
  • Perform various types of occupational medical reviews as assigned.
  • Provide medical content for written and oral consultation determinations and recommendations with 100% accuracy.
  • Communicate expert medical opinions and advice primarily in written form.
  • Support the medical and consultative needs for one or more Federal agencies.
  • Execute administrative, clinical, and consultative responsibilities depending on assignment and FOH needs.
  • Conduct medical consultations in accordance with FOH policy and guidelines.
  • Provide consultation and high‑caliber medical care with strong technical expertise in occupational and primary care medicine.
  • Work effectively in high‑stress situations and communicate efficiently.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of federal occupational safety and health regulations.
  • Conduct hands‑on examinations (when authorized by FOH) and render professional opinions on work clearances consistent with examination findings.
  • Provide consultation with local emergency management on program needs and provide acute emergency care, medical surveillance, fitness for duty, return to work, health screenings, and employee health consultations.
  • Deliver occupational and environmental medicine presentations to Federal agency employee groups.
  • Provide expert witness testimony as needed related to case reviews performed.
Administrative (Business/Management)
  • Perform work as contract employee according to FOH and vendor rules and requirements.
  • Submit monthly billing in the required format and deadline when requested.
  • Report billing for services with 100% accuracy.
  • Perform billable work for a minimum of 85% of hours submitted to staffing vendor.
Technology
  • Complete all required training and demonstrate proficiency in using FOH IT systems (including Fed Health) for review performance and communication.
  • Review and comply with all Federal cybersecurity policies and SOP.
Strategy – Customer Service
  • Demonstrate high level of professional conduct and quality work products within predetermined time frames.
  • Work with designated federal agency clients on occupational health and safety matters.
  • Partner with FOH team members to provide prompt response to customer inquiries related to case reviews or urgent consultation.
Metrics
  • Review individual performance metrics with supervisor on a quarterly basis.
Required Skills
  • Advanced training in Public Health and previous experience as a medical consultant for a federal agency.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply medical and physical employment standards, return‑to‑duty criteria, and fitness‑for‑duty requirements.
  • Research and apply the latest federal regulations or advise on recommended standards (OSHA, ADA, Rehabilitation Act, FMLA, disability guidelines) for federal populations.
  • Negotiation and communication skills with diverse stakeholders, including labor unions, management, and organizational leaders.
  • Knowledge of federal workplace drug testing programs and experience as an expert witness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and HIPAA‑compliant encryption software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with agency personnel and employees.
  • Research ability to design recommendations for occupational medicine programs and services based on agency work environments.
