Scientific HCD Specialist

We are hiring a Human Centered Design Specialist to support a team in a cloud environment to modernize biomedical research through customer enablement and community engagement. This role requires a combination of skills and knowledge including a focus on human-centered design across a variety of use cases, experience working within the scientific community, general IT and cloud operations practices, strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and track multiple work streams and activities at one time.

The Scientific HCD Specialist will explore all aspects of the customer's experience, establishing a complete understanding of their needs and preferences through a variety of tools and techniques, including extensive market research and usability testing, translating research into actionable user insights and requirements for clients, designers, developers, and other stakeholders. The specialist will be required to apply specific functional and industry knowledge to develop and contribute to solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.

Position requires US citizenship and is hybrid (Rockville, Maryland).

• Minimum one year experience of service design, design thinking, design research, business design, customer interviews, or customer experience strategy
• Minimum one year of experience supporting government clients or non-profit entities related to health and life sciences
• Experience with using facilitation techniques in dynamic environment, journey map and customer personal development
• Experience with creating implementation plans for customer service and digital product solutions
• Experience with client negotiation and setting expectations against real-world limitation
• Experience with prototyping, including sketching or using tools, including Muraly, Adobe Photoshop, Power Point, Omnigraffle, or Visio
• Experience with Illustration work or creative visualization and communication of data from generative research, insights, and findings
• Bachelors of Arts or Science Degree

• Experience and knowledge of cloud computing and cloud service providers (i.e., AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Experience and understanding of customer relationship management tools (e.g., Dynamics, Zoho)
• Experience in health and life science related work supporting federal government
• Demonstrated experience using Generative Ai (e.g., Chatgpt, Claude, Gemini) and related GenAI tools to support human center design
