Overview

Position Title: Director of Business Development.
Department: Growth.
Location: Rockville, Maryland.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing ABCD’s sales pipeline, refining business development operations, driving sales growth, expanding market opportunities, and facilitating key partnerships and ensuring seamless alignment between sales and marketing. This role will serve as a critical partner to the Executive Committee (EC), providing high-level support in managing the firm’s portfolio of prospects, existing clients, and revenue opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strategic Sales Operations & Pipeline Management: Oversee and manage the full lifecycle of the business development pipeline from lead generation to close.
  • Lead strategy for EC Sales Meetings, ensuring productive sales planning, pipeline updates, and lead tracking.
  • Collaborate closely with the Managing Partner and Chief Marketing Officer and the Chief Innovation Officer and Managing Director of Global Sales to develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy to achieve sales targets and market expansion, and to evaluate and prioritize high value opportunities.
  • Lead Generation & Nurturing: Oversee all lead generation channels, including Linked In Sales Navigator, email campaigns, referrals, and partnerships.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities and strategic partnerships to drive growth.
  • Collaborate with the Research & Marketing teams to create targeted prospecting strategies and campaigns.
  • Conduct outreach and vet leads to ensure qualification standards are met.
  • Proposal & Presentation Development: Draft, review, and refine sales proposals, scopes of work, pitch decks, and pricing packages.
  • Ensure all proposals reflect brand voice, strategic goals, and business positioning.
  • Respond to RFPs and develop customized responses for potential clients.
  • Marketing Alignment: Act as the primary liaison between Sales and Marketing to ensure integrated campaigns and messaging.
  • Partner with Marketing to produce sales collateral, thought leadership content, and digital lead magnets.
  • Provide insights and feedback to optimize campaign strategies based on prospect behavior and engagement data.
  • Client Journey & Sales Process Leadership: Refine and monitor the agency-wide sales process and client journey, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment across departments.
  • Collaborate with department leads to ensure onboarding, project kickoff, and transitions are client-centric and seamless.
  • Support efforts to map the full client experience—from awareness to retention—and recommend optimizations.
  • Champion internal business development training and enablement initiatives for team growth.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, strategic sales, or client services in a B2B agency or professional services firm.
  • Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce strongly preferred); ability to design dashboards, track KPIs, and drive adoption across teams
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding multi-million-dollar revenue goals.
  • Deep understanding of client journey mapping, pipeline forecasting, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and data-driven.
  • Experience building and managing sales teams and scaling business development operations.
  • Strong EQ with the ability to lead, influence, and collaborate across teams and senior leadership.
