Job Summary
The Director of Federal Capture and Business Development is responsible for leading and overseeing the strategic planning, development, and execution of business capture activities that support the company's long-term market position. The Director researches and identifies federal opportunities and new target market initiatives. These opportunities are bid‑specific, program‑specific, or national in scope. The Director is accountable for developing a strategy to identify and win Request for Proposals (RFPs) within their assigned vertical (Federal).
This role involves identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, developing relationships with potential clients, and leading the capture team (proposal writers) to secure new contracts or projects. The Director builds competitive intelligence, qualifies opportunities to pursue, and helps craft a solution that addresses the customer’s needs in a compelling way. The Director works with internal and external stakeholders, including technical teams, programming or delivery teams, proposal team, pricing leads, and partners.
- Lead and oversee strategic planning, development, and execution of business capture activities for assigned vertical (Federal)
- Research and identify opportunities and new target market initiatives
- Build competitive intelligence and qualify opportunities to pursue
- Present opportunities to sales management and executive leadership with relevant rationale related to strategy
- Perform internal analysis of company’s strengths and weaknesses and use this information to drive the company’s win strategy for an opportunity
- Develop and maintain relationships with potential customers and regularly collaborate with key OEMs, partners, and small business relationships
- Lead the Capture team (proposal writers) whose function is to accurately complete RFPs and meet vital submission deadlines in the pursuit of winning contracts
- Prior experience in Business Development, preferably focused on the federal vertical market
- Prior experience with proposal writing and editing, with demonstrated ability to create professional proposal content
- Demonstrated success leading a team
- Demonstrated analytical, reasoning, planning, and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to work with executives and senior leadership
- Excellent time‑management, organizational, and record‑keeping skills
- A high level of self‑motivation
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to properly prioritize tasks
- Strong problem‑solving abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Knowledge of and/or experience with capture and proposal development software programs
- Ability to adapt to rapidly advancing technology tools and applications
