Description

In order to create a pool of qualified applicants, Sierra College accepts applications in all subject areas and conducts interviews for teaching positions throughout the year. Applications are kept in the hiring pool for a period of two years. The number of open positions varies from semester to semester. Functions and Tasks
  • Lecture/ Laboratory Presentation - ESSENTIAL:
    Present lecture/laboratory information and concepts in a clear and logical manner; use current examples and /or analogies to convey important concepts; provide instructional objectives; outline, summarize, and emphasize major points; enhance presentations with visual aids, handouts, and demonstrations; answer student questions; encourage participation in classroom discussions.
  • Student Performance Evaluation - ESSENTIAL:
    Develop quizzes, examinations, term papers, homework assignments, projects, and laboratory assignments; monitor student activity during examinations; read, evaluate, and grade responses; tabulate scores and assign official grades; advise students on academic performance; refer students to appropriate student services.
  • Lecture/ Laboratory Preparation - ESSENTIAL:
    Review and select textbooks; develop supplemental materials; develop syllabi; prepare lesson plans; coordinate lectures with laboratory assignments. PERIPHERAL:
    Maintain memberships in groups to remain current.
  • Curriculum Development - ESSENTIAL:
    Review and evaluate curriculum; work with local businesses and advisory committees; coordinate with faculty; revise courses; present proposals to the Curriculum Committee.
  • Shared Governance Activities - ESSENTIAL:
    Attend district, division, and department meetings; serve on committees; conduct peer evaluations.
  • Student Services - ESSENTIAL:
    Hold regular office hours; provide students with a positive role model; support student award ceremonies; provide reference letters.
  • Special Programs - ESSENTIAL:
    Participate in career fairs and student services outreach activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in the language being taught OR Bachelor’s degree in the language being taught AND Master’s in another language or linguistics OR the equivalent.
  • Part‑time faculty teaching assignment with salary based on accredited schedule.
  • Verification of all information provided, credentials, transcripts, Live Scan, and tuberculosis examination as required.
Compensation

Placement on the District's Faculty Salary Schedule is dependent upon years of experience and level of education. Entry‑level rates are $77.44 per hour for lecture rate and $58.08 per hour for lab/counselor rate, up to $98.98 per hour lecture rate and $74.24 per hour lab/counselor rate. The highest attainable rates are $127.21 per hour lecture rate and $95.41 per hour lab/counselor rate.

Employees are also members of the State Teachers Retirement System.
