Description

In order to create a pool of qualified applicants, Sierra College accepts applications in all subject areas and conducts interviews for teaching positions throughout the year. Applications are kept in the hiring pool for a period of two years. The number of open positions varies from semester to semester. The Division Dean or Department Chair will contact you directly for an interview when a position becomes available.

Examples Of Functions and Tasks

Curriculum – ESSENTIAL:
Review, update, and evaluate curriculum development to meet student interests and needs within departmental budget constraints. Coordinate with adjunct instructors to enhance consistency of lecture and laboratory content. Design and develop Photography Department curriculum; evaluate and revise course descriptions. Present curriculum change proposals. Serve as liaison with high schools, colleges, and universities on articulation matters. Prepare semester schedules, budgets, and hazardous materials training.

PERIPHERAL:
Review compliance with legal and professional standards.

Lecture / Laboratory – ESSENTIAL:
Prepare lesson plans, syllabi, and laboratory demonstrations. Mix chemicals, perform basic equipment repairs, check equipment, coordinate student assistants. Produce instructional materials. PERIPHERAL:
Produce work as a photographic artist; evaluate new textbooks; attend workshops and conferences; familiarize with equipment.

Lecture / Laboratory Presentation – ESSENTIAL:
Present information clearly, use visual aids, distribute handouts, answer questions, enforce safety, supervise students. PERIPHERAL:
Speak to other classes, supervise clean‑up, advise on hazards, monitor disposal of chemicals.

Student Performance Evaluation – ESSENTIAL:
Develop assessments, conduct critiques, grade papers, maintain records, advise students. PERIPHERAL:
Input scores into a computer.

Shared – Governance Activities – ESSENTIAL:
Attend meetings, respond to requests, serve on committees, represent department. PERIPHERAL:
Assist in gallery coordination, attend university meetings, serve on selection committees, promote communication with Art Department.

Ancillary Student Services – ESSENTIAL:
Hold office hours, advise students, coordinate the Student Photography Show, support student newspaper staff, model citizenship. PERIPHERAL:
Provide recommendation letters, hold review sessions, encourage field trips and club activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in photography, fine arts, or art OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in art history or humanities OR equivalent.
  • Part‑time faculty teaching assignment with salary rates per the Part‑Time/Adjunct Salary Schedule (details at Sierra College website).
  • Verification of applicant credentials, transcripts, Live Scan, and tuberculosis examination as required.
  • Copies of transcripts must be attached (photocopies and unofficial transcripts accepted).
