Job Family Description

Maintenance/production personnel support the operational success of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities, buildings, systems, and shops. Professionals in these roles are responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of equipment, machinery, and production processes to meet quality, safety, and productivity standards.

Discipline Description

Maintenance support personnel provide assistance and coordination for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. Maintenance support personnel may perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment, including inspection and repair, manage inventory, and ensure maintenance activities comply with safety standards. Maintenance support personnel may perform routine calibrations of equipment and instruments to support facility operations and monitoring. They may perform shop fabrication and machining of equipment to support facility operations.

Responsibilities Include:

Metrologist - Apply measurement science, mathematics, physics, and engineering principles to develop and/or design and support measurement systems, processes, and procedures for calibration of measurement and test equipment based on analysis of measurement problems, accuracy and precision requirements. Use statistics to analyze calibration standards and processes. Evaluate new calibration methods and procedures. Recommend calibration standards. Monitor compliance with calibration laboratory and/or departmental processes.
This position is in the Savannah River Site Standards Laboratory. The laboratory is a NVLAP accredited calibration laboratory supporting the Savannah River Site performing calibrations across dimensional, electrical, flow, force, mass, pressure, temperature, torque, and vibration measurement disciplines. The chosen candidate will support calibration in at least two of the identified measurement disciplines.
Key responsibilities

* Instrument and system development:
Develop and/or design and support systems, processes, methods and procedures for calibrating M&TE based on analysis of measurement problems, accuracy and precision requirements. Evaluate new calibration methods and procedures.

* Calibration and maintenance:
Perform calibration, verification, and maintenance on metrology equipment to ensure ongoing accuracy and performance.

* Data analysis:
Analyze metrology data to assess calibration quality, identify trends, perform statistical analysis, and correlate results with performance metrics. Develop uncertainty budgets.

* Quality assurance:
Develop and implement measurement techniques, procedures, and protocols for quality assurance and control, ensuring compliance with specifications and international standards like ISO 17025. Monitor compliance with laboratory and/or departmental quality systems.
