Youth Program Educator 2, 4-H Youth Advocacy Leadership Coalition - Cuyahoga County
Department: FAES | Cuyahoga County
Position is located in Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ohio.
The Youth Advocacy and Leadership Coalition (YALC) is a grant-funded project with the primary goal of providing youth ages 13-17 in Cuyahoga County with hands-on training, education, and applied learning activities to develop leadership, government, and citizenship knowledge and skills. The YALC Program Coordinators embrace the 4-H “learn by doing” motto to co-plan advocacy activities and service learning projects with YALC members and YALC adult mentors.
The co-planning process includes youth selecting and researching community issues, communicating with speakers, creating and presenting educational workshops to their peers and adults, etc., to enhance interpersonal communication, self-confidence and preparedness for the future. The funder, Cuyahoga County Family and Children First Council (FCFC), measures success of the project on numerous outcomes including increased understanding of public policy while providing quality opportunities for youth to use their voice and make choices that impact their lives and community.
The two YALC 4-H Program Coordinators work closely with YALC youth and YALC adult facilitators to plan and facilitate programs and events offered to all youth in Cuyahoga County; research and implement learning activities at schools, community centers, and the Cuyahoga Extension office; support youth in the planning and facilitation of monthly meetings and annual summits; work closely with community partners and content experts to support all youth in Cuyahoga County and both YALC and non-YALC events;
provide community-based technical assistance and guidance on implementing YALC activities and youth development topics; assist 4-H Educator in managing 4-H staff; assist youth in identifying and carrying out community-based service learning opportunities; and develop, implement, and evaluate programs. The use of innovative technologies in program implementation is highly encouraged. Quarterly reports and program evaluations are submitted to FCFC, documenting progress against anticipated outcomes.
Data is continuously collected, shared with FCFC and entered annually into the 4-H online database.
The Program Coordinators are responsible for guidance of three adult facilitators. At times this position supports management of adult 4-H volunteers in partnership with the 4-H Educator. Together this team recruits and trains youth participants, manages up to 20 youth Team Leaders, maintains an enrollment of 200 youth, and plans and facilitates all aspects related to YALC events and meetings.
The YALC 4-H Program Coordinator serves, in collaboration with Area Leader, as Extension’s representative on the Cuyahoga County Family and Children First Council; collaborates with other 4-H staff to coordinate field trips, annual 4-H Camp, and the annual Cuyahoga County Fair; and attends relevant internal and external meetings including the county 4-H Program Advisory Committee. To promote the program the Program Coordinator provides community presentations, maintains social media…
