Qualifications/Basic

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree with two years experience in therapeutic recreation setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

• Certification as a registered recreation professional with specialization in therapeutic recreation by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
• Minimum of 5 years of professional recreational therapy experience with the behavioral health population and /or hospital setting or residential setting.
• Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated supervisory responsibilities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Must be emotionally and medically able to perform essential job responsibilities
• Must be free from active or infectious diseases

• Principles and practices of recreation therapy, art therapy and athletic activities
• Group dynamics and individual behavior in a mental health and substance abuse treatment setting
• Principles and practices of budget preparation, personnel administration, supervision and training
• Current technology and trends in the profession
• Ability to establish multi-disciplinary relationships

• Work hours prescribed by the Administrator and any additional hours deemed necessary for the responsibilities assigned.
• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individual and group recreational therapy activities as appropriate.
• Reviews and evaluates subordinates’ plans for recreational programming.
• Compiles statistics, and analyzes departmental data.
• Ensures that departmental documentation is current and relevant as well as meets company and regulatory standards.
• Understand and comply with all of the principles established by the Rosecrance Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Ethics.
• Serve as a role model for other staff, patients and customers and demonstrate positive guest relations in representing Rosecrance.
• Supervise the ETD Staff, including orientation, training, regular supervisory meetings and/or feedback, scheduled evaluations and disciplinary interventions as required.
• Assume responsibility for the equipment, supplies and physical maintenance of ET areas and request necessary repairs or services from the Administrator or Maintenance Supervisor.
• Participate in the Performance Improvement and Utilization Review process and serve on committees as directed.
• Serve as a member of the Administrative Team and participate in all team meetings and activities.
• Provide integrated screening, clinical assessment, treatment plan and treatment for both Mental Health and substance abuse for applicable patients.
• Provide 15-20 direct patient care hours per week in addition to individual session hours, documentation, clinical staffing, and leadership/company-wide duties.
• Provide regular staff-development via trainings, symposiums, etc. to ensure knowledge of the role of experiential therapies in addiction treatment and proper facilitation techniques.
• Actively participate as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and attend clinical staffing.
• Maintain evidence-based curriculum on recreational therapy and art therapy which is relevant to adult population and ensure adherence to each ETD discipline standards of practice.
• Ensure patient attendance in groups provided and evaluate satisfaction with ETD programs as well as patient outcomes.
• Plan and implement regular recovery enhancement activities for both patients and staff to improve motivation, culture, and morale.
• Demonstrate proactive initiative in researching and educating staff about appropriate experiential activities.
• Serve on company-wide committees as indicated to ensure cohesiveness of all Rosecrance facilities.
• Maintain appropriate certification (CTRS
  - Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) including continuing education units.
• Assume other related responsibilities as assigned by management.
