Senior Estimator (Civil/Highway/Roadway)

Location: Rockford IL, Indianapolis IN, Springfield IL (remote/hybrid options available).

William Charles Construction has over a century of experience in heavy civil construction, environmental management, and mining. We provide construction services across industrial, renewables, and infrastructure sectors, focusing on roadways, bridges, and specialty pavement overlays.

• Review, analyze, and interpret contract documents to provide accurate, detailed cost estimates.
• Develop preliminary budget estimates for opportunity pursuits and evaluate go/no‑go decisions.
• Identify critical issues, develop risk exposure summaries and associated cost impacts.
• Provide innovative thinking for value engineering solutions.
• Communicate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Perform and review quantity takeoff comparisons for accuracy.
• Collaborate with scheduling staff and Operations to develop accurate bid schedules.
• Present complete, accurate estimates for confident decision making.
• Represent the company at pre‑bids and site visits.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Construction Management (or related field).
• Minimum 5 years of heavy civil estimating experience (equivalent education and work experience considered).
• Extensive experience with earthwork, underground drainage, sewer, watermain, and general roadway construction; PCC paving and concrete knowledge is a plus.

• In-depth knowledge of earthwork, underground drainage, sewer, watermain, and roadway construction (ILDOT experience preferred).
• Exceptional attention to detail and organization.
• Self‑motivated and capable of managing time and prioritizing work.
• Limited travel required for pre‑bids, site walks, and owner meetings.
• Thrives in fast‑paced environments with strict deadlines.
• Proficient in Bid2
  
  Win estimating software; strong Microsoft Office skills; experience with Primavera P6, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD is a plus.
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.

• Base compensation $140,000–$185,000 per year (flexible with experience in closing bids and leadership).
