Position Summary

The Math Teacher at Boylan Catholic High School plays a pivotal role in fostering a comprehensive and engaging learning environment within the framework of Catholic values. The Teacher facilitates student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing an approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment.

of Responsibility
  • The essential role of the Catholic school teacher is to witness the Gospel message and to lead students to reflect on a Christian approach to life while building the faith community.
  • The teacher should provide students the opportunities to develop their gifts as peacemakers and stewards for the service of the world community.
  • The teacher should design, develop, and deliver quality lesson plans and curricula that adhere to national and school guidelines.
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations and independent practice using a variety of proven methods.
  • Differentiate lessons when needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency or level of interest in the subject.
  • Participate as a contributing member of the Math Department.
  • Implement approved Mathematics curriculum as outlined.
  • Actively engage students in mathematics activities that elicit higher-order thinking skills.
  • Participate in school improvement activities as provided in the school’s School Improvement Plan.
  • Draw up suitable assessments and deliver helpful feedback to students, parents, and other teachers.
  • Establishing classroom rules and regulations and ensuring that all students understand what is expected of them.
  • Provide extra resources, support, and interventions for students who are struggling.
  • Grade papers, updating records, and handle various administrative tasks.
  • Create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and voicing concerns.
  • Participate in other school activities and regularly communicate with parents.
  • Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks or other standard test practices.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly and supportive classroom by modeling expected behavior and standards, promoting positive interactions and quickly addressing behaviors that are not in line with the school discipline plan.
  • Improve skills and knowledge in teaching by regularly taking classes, attending workshops and discovering new methods of delivering exciting content to students.
  • Work with school administration to develop curriculum, revise school policies, and implement new technology.
  • Assist with initiatives and activities within the school such as standardized testing, class level presentations and course forecasting.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy in the area of Mathematics.
  • Knowledge of high school Mathematics curricula, concepts, and standards.
  • Ability to work with colleagues to design and teach multi-disciplinary courses
  • Ability to create engaging lesson plans and classroom activities
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation about performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work with colleagues to design and teach multi-disciplinary courses
  • Ability to answer sensitive questions and create an environment where everyone’s opinions are respected.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Illinois Professional Educator Licensure
  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is preferred.
  • Understand, embrace, and be able to articulate the mission and vision of Boylan Catholic High School.

Salary Range is $38,668 - $64,268;
