Position: School-Age Site Lead (RPS and Harlem)

Overview

YOUR IMPACT
The School-Age Site Lead oversees daily operations of after school programs and summer camp activities. The Site Lead inspires and guides a team of staff to deliver high-quality, engaging programming that supports the academic, recreational, and social/emotional development of youth. This role requires a strong commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, excellent organizational skills, and a collaborative approach to building positive relationships with families, school leadership, and the broader community.

Travel between program sites may be required as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of assigned before and/or after school sites during the school year.
  • During no-school days and summer camps, serve as lead or group leader as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, feedback, and direction to site staff to ensure high-quality program delivery.
  • Actively engage in site programming, utilizing the provided curriculum to support and enhance youthul academic, recreational, and social/emotional development.
  • Ensure youth safety by participating in and supervising all swimming and water-based activities.
  • Prepare and maintain student rosters, assign children to appropriate groups, and ensure accurate attendance records.
  • Develop and implement the daily program schedule under supervisor guidance, ensuring activities align with program goals and standards.
  • Maintain and submit all required daily, weekly, and monthly paperwork and reports, including food program documents, behavior/incident reports, site and staff evaluations, and emergency drill logs.
  • Utilize positive youth discipline techniques and effective group management to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Maintain student behavioral plans and responses in accordance with department SOPs and handbook.
  • Manage site resources and supplies, ensuring materials are available and properly maintained; keep the space clean and well-maintained.
  • Assist with coordinating parent-engagement programs and foster strong relationships with families through regular communication and involvement opportunities.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with school leadership to ensure alignment and support for program activities.
  • Foster partnerships with parents/guardians to provide the best possible care for enrolled youth.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance program quality and effectiveness.
  • Attend and actively participate in all Site Lead and all-team meetings and trainings; communicate concerns to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout programming.
  • Report damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
  • Adhere to all state, local, and YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA.
Schedule & Compensation

Positions: 3 (Part Time, Non-Exempt).
Location
: RPS and Harlem Districts.

Hours:

Monday – Friday 1:30–5:45 pm. First Wednesday of the Month Meeting: 6:15 – 7:15 pm (Good Shepherd YMCA). This is a year-round position with hours subject to change for school out days and summer months. Pay: $15.75 per hour

Work Location

This position may serve schools in the RPS 205 and Harlem 122 districts. Placements determined at time of hire. Regardless of primary assignment, travel between sites may be required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum age 18
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 1 year of related leadership experience in a childcare setting preferred
  • YMCA Leader certification preferred
  • Training required on hire:
    Gateways Child Development Health & Safety;
    Illinois DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect/Mandated Reporter; additional state requirements as needed
  • CACFP/SFSP Training required within 90 days
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required within 90 days
  • Current Praesidium Academy trainings
