Teach assigned classes and perform activities related to classroom instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach lecture, recitation, and lab components of various level Physics courses as well as courses in additional discipline.
- Prepare and setup equipment and/or labs weekly.
- Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment where appropriate.
- See that equipment and/or labs are properly maintained where appropriate.
- Participate in course, program, and institutional assessment with the analysis and reporting of data.
- Meet classes at assigned times.
- Plan course content and assign appropriate course work.
- Maintain student records.
- Evaluate student progress and assign grades.
- Assist in revising course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed.
- Collaboratively select and adopt appropriate texts and teaching materials.
- Maintain office hours convenient for students.
- Prepare course/class reports as required.
- Attend and participate in conferences related to the teaching area; membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
- Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate.
- Keep informed on the latest research and journal articles.
- Attend required meetings (faculty, division, faculty development days, etc.).
- Assist in short-term and long-term course planning.
- Participate in division, college, community, and advisory committee activities.
- Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.
- Make minor repairs on machines or other lab equipment when practical and appropriate.
- Recruit students when appropriate.
- Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any and policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.
- Assist in placement of graduates when appropriate.
- Regular attendance is expected.
- Master’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Physics.
- This position must have a minimum of 18 graduate hours in an additional physical science field such as atmospheric science, geology, chemistry, or other physical science field.
- Education beyond the Master’s level is desirable.
- Ph.D. is preferred.
- Teaching experience in college-level courses is preferred.
- Commitment to the community college mission.
- Interest in involvement in department/division/ and college initiatives.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in classroom and office settings.
