Job Details General SummaryUnder general supervision of the Store Manager, manages the Perishable Departments including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread and bakery items. Assists Store Manager with inventory management, merchandising, customer service, safety, and compliance with food handling rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities- Assist Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity through strict cash accountability, key control, and adherence to security practices.
- Follow company policies and ensure employee compliance.
- Maintain correct perishable stock levels using tools such as Current Ads / Planners, Produce Order Guide, Fresh Meat Recap and Order Guide, Milk Sales History and Order Guide, Vendor Order Guide, and Bread Order Planning.
- Assist in training associates on presentation, freshness, pricing, safe handling, and stocking of perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze causes, and implement corrective actions, including grading and re‑packaging training.
- Accurately record inventory levels for the Store Support Center.
- Ensure customer needs are addressed promptly and maintain daily contact to understand merchandise expectations.
- Maintain compliance with sanitation standards and train associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Support other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to operate a cash register and generate reports.
- Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends and control opportunities.
- Knowledge of cash handling, facility and safety control policies.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow plan‑o‑gram and merchandising guidance.
- Willingness to comply with company policies and obtain required certifications in food handling.
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- One year of experience in a retail environment and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
- Previous lead or grocery store experience preferred.
- Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.
