Hvac Technician

Overview

HVAC Technician position located at Winthrop University, 701 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730. This is a full-time role with days and start times that may vary (7:00 am to 3:30 pm). Online applications are accepted only.

Pay range: $24.00 to $29.00 per hour. HVAC Universal certification is required.

The HVAC Maintenance Technician performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties related to facilities engineering and maintenance, and works under the supervision of a Supervisor, Foreman, or Master Mechanic. Within the chosen trade, the technician will work independently to analyze and correct complex problems and ensure work practices meet standards.

• Update work statuses and document tasks completed in the CMMS using a mobile device.
• Determine manpower, material needs, and deadlines for jobs and projects.
• Inspect, service, repair, and diagnose HVAC, electrical, and mechanical building systems and related equipment.
• Assist in decision-making on repairs and report major problems to the Maintenance Supervisor, Foreman, and Manager as appropriate.
• Construct, install, maintain, and repair electrical and mechanical systems and related facilities using appropriate tools.
• Review outside vendor projects and generate punch lists.
• Analyze and correct complex building system problems and electro/mechanical issues related to utilities.
• Support project management activities as needed.
• Respond to emergencies and perform urgent repairs as required.
• Maintain logs, perform rounds, and complete preventive maintenance (PM) work orders, tests, and inspections.
• Recommend modifications or improvements to preventive maintenance systems.
• Keep shops and mechanical areas clean and safe.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician in an institutional setting within an engineering or maintenance discipline.
• One of the following:
  Journeyman Electrical License, Registered ACR Technician with EPA certification in Refrigerant, or Journeyman Plumber License.
• Experience working with blueprints and schematics.
• Valid driver’s license.
• General understanding of electro-mechanical equipment.
• Ability to operate hand-operated construction equipment.
• Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and perform strenuous labor for extended periods.

Exposure to high heat, noise, dust, dirt, and areas requiring infection control. Must meet deadlines and be able to work all hours, including weekends and nights, as necessary to maintain facility safety and operations.
