- Accurately checks patient’s blood sugar and documents results as ordered (all values are correctly reported to attending nurse)
- Obtains vital signs appropriately based on patient’s age and condition. Reports abnormal findings immediately to attending or charge nurse
- Performs patient interventions completely and proficiently within scope of practice and demonstrates age specific competency for population of patients served
- Provides appropriate treatment in emergency situations as they arise (i.e. codes, patient falls)
- Notifies nurse of changes in patient’s condition
- Performs related duties as required
The Nurse Extern role is designed to provide expanded clinical experience for professional (RN) nursing students and to assist the Registered Nursing staff by performing patient care activities, which includes participating in patient care planning, implementation, observation and evaluation, as well as reporting significant observations to a Registered Nurse.
Qualifications- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Nursing students who have completed their first clinical rotation of an accredited professional (RN) school of nursing program
- Certifications/Registrations/Licenses:
- American Heart Association BLS CPR certification required. Must be obtained within 7 days of hire.
