Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Supervisor oversees operations and workflow within the department, develops procedural protocols, and leads the team.

Responsibilities include:

• Responsible for the needs of the staff with regards to workflow and technical operations.
• Ensures proper preparation, storing, dispensing and periodic evaluation of all reagents to assure accuracy and precision of test results.
• Performs laboratory analysis and interprets results.
• Recognizes instrument malfunction, quality control problems, and abnormal or variant patient results.
• Develops and maintains technical policies and procedures.
• Performs related duties as required.
• Ensures training of new employees and students, maintains competency of team on off shifts and re-educates as needed.
• Maintains equipment and supply inventory.
• Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies (attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, patient confidentiality) and procedures.
• Maintains knowledge and practices current regulatory guidelines.
• Prepares and participates in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP and AABB.
• Follows best practice for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.

• Required:
  • Education:
    
    Graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as:
    • Military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489
    • Qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on an HHS examination before 2/28/92 (42 CFR 493.1491).
    • Meets CLIA requirements for General Supervisor.
  • Experience:
    
    5+ years of job‑related experience required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    Registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or equivalent).
• Preferred:
  • Education:
    
    Bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university.
  • Experience:
    
    Prior Supervisory experience preferred.
