Overnight Emergency Shelter Counselor

$19.50–$21.50 per hour

The emergency shelter team provides 24/7 survival‑support services to homeless and runaway youth. Counselors establish respectful, trusting relationships, identify needs, and develop strategies to foster stability.

• Supervise daily activities: wake‑up, clean‑up, chores, bedtime
• Distribute medications and maintain documentation
• Liaise with Intake and Emergency Shelter Support teams
• Provide individual counseling and mentoring
• Respond to after‑hour intake of youth in need
• Develop and supervise social, cultural and recreational activities
• Respond to crises, conflicts and prevention interventions
• Maintain accurate program records and facility grounds
• Plan and prepare daily meals
• Other duties as assigned

• Youth friendly; positive, calm and objective in crisis situations
• Sensitive to cultural diversity and able to build relationships with key stakeholders
• Significant knowledge of Positive Youth Development, Counseling approaches, adolescent development, residential services, group facilitation and training methods, crisis prevention, intervention skills, social & recreational activities, meal preparation, housekeeping and facility maintenance

• Valid driver’s license; acceptable driving record

Must be autonomously mobile and able to work anywhere within the 3‑story facility.
