University Advancement at Rochester Institute of Technology is excited to add a Prospect Research and Management Officer to our growing Development team. This role is well suited for a research-driven professional who enjoys working at the intersection of data, strategy, and fundraising.

The Prospect Research and Management Officer partners closely with frontline fundraisers to strengthen portfolio effectiveness, advance prospect pipeline strategy, and support informed decision‑making that drives philanthropic investment in the university's priorities.

The Prospect Research and Management Officer provides strategic research, portfolio analysis, and business intelligence to ensure prospect portfolios are structured, balanced, and aligned with divisional goals. This role produces research briefings and capacity assessments, monitors prospect movement through the solicitation lifecycle, and supports data integrity and reporting efforts that enhance overall fundraising performance. In addition to strong analytical skills, the ideal candidate is comfortable navigating and explaining advancement tools and portfolio management platforms, serving as a resource to fundraisers in an evolving digital environment.

The position requires excellent communication, sound judgment, strict adherence to confidentiality standards, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, mission‑driven setting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Researches individual, foundation, and corporate prospects, analyzes and interprets complex business, financial, and biographical information, and creates prospect reports, profiles, and briefing materials.
  • Monitors news publications for developments impacting university constituents and disseminates news and updates to prospect managers and selected administrative offices.
  • Supports divisional data integrity efforts by researching and sharing updated biographical, employment, and contact information for university alumni, prospects, and constituents, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
  • Manages research tracking system to ensure projects are completed on time and project records are accurately maintained.
  • Reviews research requests and advises on strategies for best conducting, displaying, and communicating research results.
  • Identifies new resources for research, assessing sources available through the university library, online databases, and a range of vendors to determine an effective and streamlined strategy for conducting research.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of prospect research methodology and practices.
  • Skill in the use of database applications, or other reputable research resources, for prospect identification, management, and research.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to collect, synthesize, and process information quickly and accurately.
Minimum Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Job Level Overview

Specialized Contributor Level 2 - A fully functional role requiring established knowledge of the profession or field of work. Responsible for completing substantive assignments and projects. Problems are varied and non‑routine, and resolution requires exercising judgment, analysis, advisement, creativity, and understanding broader sets of issues. May provide assistance to entry level staff.
