Position Summary
The Quality Engineer I will be responsible for maintaining and improving QED’s quality systems while supporting trade and product safety compliance. In this role you will work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and customer service to promote continuous improvement of QED’s products and processes. Responsibilities include processes that assure quality at the time of manufacture and methods to promote customer satisfaction after product delivery.
The Quality Engineer I will support all QED business units (QED’s machine business and QED Optics).
- Maintains, improves, and manages processes and associated controlled documentation to ensure that products meet required specifications for quality, function, and reliability prior to delivery.
- Executes machine and subassembly qualifications. Improve qualification activities/documentation by collaborating with various departments.
- Manages QED’s Quality case process by collaborating with vendors, customers, and other internal and external stakeholders to identify and resolve problems with products.
- Conducts or assists with performance and failure analysis of defective products or materials.
- Maintains the case system to track and report quality problems and resolution status.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify root causes of problems and use data analysis to recommend or implement corrective or preventive actions, or opportunities for improvement.
- Determine if components or parts require incoming inspection and sampling plans based on data analysis. Develop and implement inspection processes. Collaborate with Supply Chain and Logistics for inspection setup, monitoring, and record retention within the ERP system.
- Participate in and drive safety activities and audits across QED sites.
- Support all departments with Quality related activities.
- Create, audit, maintain Quality documentation within the QMS.
- Ensure that the company, employees, products and projects comply with all relevant regulations and specifications. This could include health and safety, environmental, legal or quality standards, as well as ethical policies.

- Experience with Quality tools preferred (Histograms, Pareto Charts, 5S, Fishbone diagram, etc.).
- Education Requirements:
no degree and 10+ years of quality experience, or associate degree and 5+ years of quality experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of quality experience is required.
- Domestic travel (5‑10%) is currently required to perform the essential functions of this position.
The specific salary offered will be dependent on the education and experience of the applicant as compared with current internal employees with similar education and experience to maintain our internal equity.
