Recreation Specialist/Lifeguard - Part Time
CP Rochester and Happiness House are private nonprofit health, educational, residential and human service organizations serving the Finger Lakes Region and Greater Rochester Area since 1946. With sites in Rochester, Canandaigua, Geneva, Gorham, Midlakes and Waterloo, our agencies offer educational, therapeutic, recreational, residential and family support programs for children and adults with and without disabilities. We serve 3,650 families each year and employ approximately 600 people.
Our staff includes professionals and clinicians with expertise in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Physical, Occupational, Speech and Music Therapies, Psychology, Service Coordination, Nursing, Dental Services, and Developmental Disabilities. We are committed to serving individuals with autism, traumatic brain injury, neurological impairments, and a wide variety of developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

Job DescriptionJob Title: Recreation Specialist and/or Lifeguard – Part Time
Location: CP Rochester – Monroe County, NY
Hourly Salary:
- Recreation Specialist: $16.00
- Certified Lifeguard: $16.50
Signing Bonus: $250 ($125 at 6‑month anniversary and $125 at 12‑month anniversary).
Hours of Employment:
- Swim Program – CP Rochester Winton Road, Wednesdays and Thursdays 4:45‑7:45 pm
- Bowling – Sunset Lanes, Chili Tuesday evenings 5‑6 pm
- Pickleball – Dinkers, East Rochester Monday evenings 5‑6 pm
- Golf (Indoors) – Eagle Vale, Fairport Wednesday evenings 5‑6 pm
Summary/Objective: Ensure all recreation services are individually focused, promote independence, productivity, and choice. Integrate services into the community, maintain cost‑effectiveness, and deliver high‑quality programs measured by user and funder satisfaction. Provide water safety and supervision during swim sessions.
Requirements- High School Diploma or equivalent required; higher education degree in recreation or related field preferred.
- Experience providing recreational services to individuals of all ages and abilities preferred.
- Advanced Lifesaving or Lifeguarding certification (Red Cross or equivalent) required.
- First Aid and CPR certification required.
- Ability to plan and organize daily operations of the department or program.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Good judgment in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Tolerance for stressful interactions and situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic health record systems, and relevant computer programs.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to travel within the Rochester area.
- Reliable transportation to travel between locations.
- Ability to drive a pick‑up truck and trailer preferred.
