Job Requirements / Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State (NY RN license required)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Operating Room (OR RN) experience, preferably in cardiac surgery or cardiothoracic procedures
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association)
  • Ability to scrub and circulate in the OR for complex cardiac cases
  • Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center or high-acuity cardiovascular program is highly desired
  • Familiarity with sterile technique, perioperative protocols, and surgical instrumentation for cardiac procedures
Key Responsibilities (Cardiac OR / Perioperative Nurse)
  • Provide direct perioperative patient care in the Cardiac OR: preoperative preparation, intraoperative support, and postoperative handoff
  • Scrub and circulate during complex cardiac surgeries including CABG, TAVI, VAD implantations, ECMO initiation, and heart transplants
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
  • Maintain a safe, sterile operating room environment and adhere to hospital policies and infection control standards
  • Document intraoperative events, assist with instrument counts, and support efficient OR workflow
  • Educate and support patients and families with clear, compassionate communication pre- and post-surgery
  • Participate in quality improvement, continuing education, and competency validation as a cardiac surgery nurse
