Nurse Practitioner Resident – Urban Track (1 Year Assignment)
Job Description
Highland Family Medicine is seeking FNP Residents for its 2026-27 class. Candidates for this role would work a 1-year FNP residency with our Highland Family Medicine team. This cohort will begin the residency the first week of September 2026 and will run through August 31, 2027. Chance to stay on as a permanent FNP after residency is a possibility. This is an Advance Nurse Education Nurse Practitioner Residency funded position.
Candidates who complete residency may be eligible for loan forgiveness.
- NP resident provides direct patient care to patients throughout the lifespan during precepted continuity clinics, following professional Nurse Practitioner and community standards for advanced clinical practice using Family Medicine guidelines, protocols, and procedures, and guided by state and federal laws, DEA regulations, and the New York State Nurse Practitioner Modernization Act.
- Participates in structured post‑graduate residency training sessions, including rotations through specialty clinics, weekly formal learning sessions on complex clinical challenges, chronic disease management, inter‑professional projects focused on population health, didactic training in leadership, and participation in team quality improvement (QI) cycles to improve health system processes.
- Opportunity to learn practice call in a supportive environment. Practice call starts about four months into the program and runs over a 6‑month duration of the residency.

Urban track residents will be expected to travel five days throughout their residency year, typically to our rural health partner at TCFM in Dansville or Canaseraga, NY. Most specialty rotations are in Rochester; travel to Brockport or Canandaigua may also be required. Travel reimbursement is not available for the urban track.
Salary Range$82,430.00 annually. Grant funded. (Minimum and maximum compensation for this job is $82,430.00.)

Fulfills the educational requirements to be a licensed FNP - Experience:
3–5 years of experience as a registered nurse prior to completing a Master’s program is desired. - License/Certification
Required:
Be a licensed nurse practitioner in the State of New York for specialty practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner with full prescriptive privileges by the start of the NP residency program. Active registration by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration to prescribe Category II through V drugs. National certification in Family Practice preferred from a national organization, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center of the American Nurses Association or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Must be BLS certified.
