Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides nursing care as directed by a Registered Nurse within a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit, which may include overflow patients from the Emergency Department. The unit is a flex space within the GI Endoscopy area, and patient numbers may vary based on demand. The LVN will gather and report data, carry out orders, and perform therapeutic procedures on patients in an age and population-appropriate manner.

Responsibilities:

- Gathering and reporting patient data.
- Carrying out physician orders.
- Performing therapeutic procedures on patients.
- Blood glucose monitoring/testing.
- Feeding tube care and management.
- Foley catheter insertion (male and female).
- Administering ear drops, eye drops, IM & SQ injections, and oral medications.
- NG Tube/G Tube management.
- Assisting with ambulation.
- Oxygen administration via face masks and nasal cannula.
- Providing bathing assistance (sitz, tub, bed, shower).
- Performing mouth care.
- Assisting with patient admission.
- Communicating patient status changes to RN/MD.
- Implementing isolation precautions.
- Monitoring vital signs.
- Documentation of patient care and related duties.
- Answering unit phone and directing calls accordingly.
- Performing data entry into electronic medical database systems.
- Coordinating equipment/supply needs and reporting malfunctions.

Required Skills &

Certifications:

- Current LVN/LPN license in the state of working.
- BLS certification.
- One year of inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience.
- Skills in Emergency Department and MS/Tele.

Preferred Skills &

Certifications:

- Previous charge experience.
- Prior experience in emergency or critical care environments.
- Comfort level working with vents/trachs/PICC lines.
- Two years of experience in direct patient care.
- EPIC experience.

Special Considerations:

- Minimal RTO is preferred.
- Float to care for MS patients based on unit turn.
- Call may be required depending on staffing needs.
- SBAR communication is used for ED patients; verbal report for other transfers/admissions.

Scheduling:
- Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
- Every other weekend coverage is required.
