Overview

Recruiting Registered Nurse Psychiatric Educators

Rochester Psychiatric Center (RPC), an Office of Mental Health (OMH) Joint Commission-accredited facility, is recruiting a Registered Nurse 3 Psychiatric Educator to plan, design, and develop training curriculum to improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of nursing staff. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, consisting of 8-hour day shifts. Flexibility in scheduling may be required.

As an RN 3 Psychiatric Educator, your responsibilities also include:

Responsibilities
  • Collaborating with nursing leadership to enhance education and training for nursing and direct care staff.
  • Developing and updating training programs to improve knowledge and skills, providing on-site coaching to promote evidence-based practices and enhance patient care quality.
  • Teaching proper nursing procedures and assessing training needs through observation and demonstrations.
  • Conducting nursing orientation programs and monitoring employee progress.
  • Collaborating with nursing management and multidisciplinary treatment teams to develop and revise policies and procedures and ensure staff competencies are current and in compliance with nursing standards.
  • Completing chart audits for documentation accuracy and offering recommendations for improvements.

RPC provides inpatient and outpatient treatment and rehabilitation to adults who have been diagnosed with serious mental illness, residential and community support programs to children and adolescents diagnosed with serious emotional disturbances, and inpatient treatment to individuals who are currently involved with the Criminal Justice System. RPC is committed to supporting underserved individuals, organizations, and communities, along with activities and initiatives to reduce disparities in access, quality, and treatment for underserved populations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; AND
  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing; AND
  • 2 years of post-licensure nursing experience.
  • One year must have been clinical nursing experience working with individuals, at least 50% of whom have been diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, or substance use disorder; and one year must have been professional nurse educator experience conducting nurse education and training.
  • Substitutions: a master’s degree in nursing or higher may substitute for the one year of nurse educator experience.
