Job Description Rochester General Hospital is seeking an experienced Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Registered Nurse to provide expert, high-acuity care to critically ill patients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced critical care skills, utilize evidence-based practice, and collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, compassionate care in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Unit Information:

  • Unit Type: 16-bed MICU
  • Common Cases:
    Sepsis, ARDS, renal failure, heart failure, pre-VAD workups, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, multi-organ failure, post-cardiac arrest/targeted temperature management, respiratory failure/shock.
  • Advanced Therapies: CRRT, EKOS, IABP, ECMO, Impella.
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2, with 1:1 based on acuity.
  • Charting System:
    Epic
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care to critically ill adult patients in the MICU.
  • Perform advanced assessments, administer medications, and manage life-support equipment.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies, including codes and rapid response events.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic.
  • Adhere to hospital protocols, infection control standards, and evidence-based practice guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
    li>Active New York RN license (MUST be in hand prior to start – no exceptions).
  • Minimum 2 years of recent MICU experience.
  • Certifications:

    BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required).
  • Patient Ratio

    Experience:

    1:2 in high-acuity ICU settings.
  • Teaching hospital experience:
    Preferred but not required.
  • Travel experience:
    Not required; first-time travelers welcome.

Compensation: $65.00 per hour
