Position: Registered Nurse (per diem)
Location: City of Rochester

TES Staffing is excited to partner with a small, independent school in Rochester that joyfully supports children with special health care needs. We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join their dedicated team.

Position Details
  • Schedule: Per Diem

  • Employment Type: Direct Hire

Essential Responsibilities
Daily Care & Clinical Duties
  • Complete daily health assessments for all children in care.

  • Perform routine health tasks and monitor attendance, communicating absences to the team.

  • Ensure accurate completion of intake forms, medication records, progress notes, and parent communication logs.

  • Collaborate with the RN Care Manager regarding ongoing patient needs.

  • Make nursing decisions related to Daystar Kids medical respite services.

Health Monitoring & Quality of Care
  • Ensure participants follow health policies outlined in the Parent Handbook.

  • Identify significant changes in health status and respond appropriately.

  • Evaluate child and family responses to medications, therapies, and activities.

  • Maintain high-quality care in alignment with therapeutic standards and state regulations.

  • Recommend care adjustments as needed.

Safety, Compliance & Documentation
  • Adhere to infection control policies, medication administration procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with HIPAA.

  • Maintain compliance with OPWDD policies, nursing service plans (PONS), and agency procedures.

  • Document all health-related information accurately and promptly.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment that meets Daystar Kids’ sanitizing requirements.

Collaboration & Family Engagement
  • Communicate daily with parents/guardians about each child’s health status and progress.

  • Work closely with medical personnel and multidisciplinary team members to support each child’s well‑being.

  • Attend Parent/Teacher conferences as needed to review health needs and goals.

  • Participate in team‑based problem‑solving to address child‑specific concerns.

Training & Professional Development
  • Maintain competency in health and safety standards from the first month of employment onward.

  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of approved annual training on child health and safety.

  • Complete 30 hours of NYS-required training every two years
    .

  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, conferences, and professional development activities.

Additional Duties
  • Support child engagement and supervision alongside the multidisciplinary team.

  • Build positive relationships with children, families, coworkers, providers, and volunteers.

  • Serve as an ambassador by upholding customer service and program values.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2–4 years of pediatric or acute care experience preferred.

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
    .

  • Current infant and child BLS certification
    .

  • PEARS certification (or completion within one year of hire).

  • Ability to work effectively with children who have special health care and developmental needs.

  • Demonstrated compassion, patience, and emotional resilience.

  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work well with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient computer and documentation skills.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs routinely.

  • Ability to stand for long periods, sit, bend, and work in low positions to engage children.

  • Ability to move quickly from sitting to standing positions.

  • Regular use of hands, arms, verbal communication, and hearing.

  • Work environment may have a high noise level
