Licensed Vocational Nurse

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse in a medical-surgical setting. Responsibilities include data collection, implementing orders, performing therapeutic procedures, and monitoring patient conditions. The LVN must be able to take their own patient assignment with RN support, and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

- Taking vital signs and performing pain assessments.
- Monitoring intake and output.
- Implementing isolation precautions.
- Applying physical restraints.
- Labeling specimens.
- Administering oxygen via nasal cannula.
- Managing feeding tubes.
- Monitoring telemetry.
- Performing 12-lead EKGs.
- Administering medications (oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops).
- Managing IV therapy with pumps.
- Monitoring blood glucose.
- Providing basic wound care (simple dressings, JP/Hemovac drains).
- Assisting with bathing and mouth care.
- Inserting Foley catheters (male/female).
- Collecting clean catch urine specimens.
- Communicating changes in patient status to RN/MD.
- Providing care for patients with conditions such as COPD exacerbation, infections, failure to thrive, and social issues.

Required Skills &

Certifications:

- Active New York Single State LPN license (NY is not Compact).
- BLS certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of Acute Care experience within the last 2 years.
- Ability to take own patient assignment with the support of an RN.

Preferred Skills &

Certifications:

- EPIC charting experience.

Special Considerations:

- Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed.
- Will be required to float within skillset.
- Must submit RTO/Block & Special Scheduling Requests upon submission.
- The client may cancel (call off) up to three shifts during a 13-week contract period without incurring charges for the canceled hours.

Scheduling:
- 1900p-0700a shift hours.
- Every other weekend requirement.
