Position Summary

Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a registered nurse with specialized education. The RNFA develops specific technical skills to assist the surgeon with intra‑operative procedures beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA training. The RNFA may provide direct care to patients using the nursing process preoperatively, intra‑operatively, and postoperatively. Intra‑operatively, the RNFA functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient.

• Cauterizing, suturing, incising skin, using instruments/medical devices, providing exposure, handling and/or cutting tissue, and providing hemostasis.

$46.00 - $59.55 per hour. The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range and will be determined by considering factors including but not limited to market data, education, experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

• Education – Fulfilled requirements to be licensed as a registered nurse in NYS.
• Experience – Minimum 2 years as an RN following ASPN III or 3 years RN experience from another healthcare provider.
• License/Certification – Licensed to practice as a registered nurse; RNFA must have CNOR and Certification from an RNFA program; NP in RNFA role must have completed RNFA Certification program. Current CPR certification required.
• Skills – Basic knowledge of a PC including internet and email use.
