EHS Technician

fairlife, LLC is a Chicago-based nutrition company that creates great-tasting, nutrition-rich dairy products. The company’s manufacturing facility in Webster, NY is a 750k sq ft greenfield plant expected to be operational in late 2025. The role will support this new facility and existing operations.

Job Purpose

The Environmental, Health & Safety Technician will provide broad support to the site in the areas of Safety, Health, and Environment. The primary objective is to provide regular support to site operations at points of execution on the shop floor, promote a culture where Safety, Health and Environment are ingrained as a core value, assist with EHS program implementation, train employees, and ensure ongoing compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Site EHS Culture – Lead and foster a culture where safety, health and environment are core values, coach the team on behavior‑based safety observations and risk predictions.
  • EHS Strategies, Programs and Plans – Implement and participate in company EHS policies, processes and procedures: EHS team meetings; EHS committees; SHE Pillar; job hazard evaluations; internal audits; incident investigations; hazard abatement; monitoring and coaching of high‑hazard work; evaluation of machine guarding; PPE risk assessment; emergency response procedures; waste‑management audits; ISO 14001/45001 education; chemical inventory and safety assurance.
  • Compliance and Technical Support – Provide day‑to‑day guidance and coaching to all employees regarding health & safety practices, interpretation of policies, problem resolution and compliance with federal and state law.
  • SMS/EMS Verification – Perform monthly safety inspections to ensure SMS and EMS requirements are met.
  • Incident Investigation and Analysis – Participate in formal incident reviews for incidents that result in first‑aid, recordable injury, lost‑time, spills or serious near‑misses.
  • Risk Assessment and Elimination – Investigate hazardous conditions and take appropriate mitigation actions.
  • EHS Capability Building/Training – Develop and deliver EHS training for employees and contractors, including third‑party training.
  • Track and report safety KPIs and performance.
  • All other job‑related duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years in manufacturing with general knowledge of site operations (maintenance, sanitation, warehouse, refrigeration, production); experience as an EHS representative or committee member is a plus.
  • Capable of obtaining OSHA 30‑hr certification;
    First Aid/CPR/AED or higher certification is a plus.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills, ability to meet critical deadlines, maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision and strong leadership, interpersonal, self‑initiative skills.
  • Technical understanding of EHS issues and their relation to operations and engineering.
  • Proficiency in English, written and verbal communication, and ability to influence across diverse roles.
  • Proficiency with Windows applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); mastery of specialized software as required.
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements
  • 12‑hour shift (sitting, standing, walking). Shift schedule requires flexibility including occasional weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Reaching/bending requirements less than 2 hours per day.
  • Exposure to machinery or confined spaces; proper PPE required.
Food Safety Requirements
  • Notify supervision of any repairs/adjustments that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Observe color‑coded container policy in production areas.
  • Perform duties to meet company, customer, and government quality and food safety requirements.
  • Initiate action to prevent nonconformities in food safety and quality.
  • Record and control nonconforming products until corrected.
  • In absence, an employee with same skill level will assume duties.

Travel Requirements

Minimal travel; occasional off‑site visits to other locations.

Salary Requirement

Non‑Exempt. Base pay range: $30,000–$36,000 USD. Full range of benefits may be offered.
